Sixth grade coffee house

So the sixth graders served their parents coffee on Thursday and had a poetry slam. This was my first experience with such a thing and I'm pretty sure it will be my last. Not that I don't like coffee or poetry or anything like that. But when you add in sixth grade boys as the poets, that's when it all goes snowballing down hill.

There was one kid in the class who's work of art went something like this:

I can't remember the rest and I won't name any names here. But I will say he looks an awful lot like my husband. And even though he promised his very sweet mother that he wouldn't read it aloud, the temptation was too much to bear and once she left, he took the stage. Proud moment. No doubt.

graham's first tourney of the season

DARE

The night before the morning we were so rudely awaken by a tornado in our neighborhood, Graham participated in the 5th grade DARE graduation.  Three long hours of lots of information about not doing drugs and I must admit that I needed some to get myself through the evening.

All the kids had to write an essay about what they learned in the program and the winners were given awards and prizes.  Graham was a runner up.  His teacher let me read his essay and I must brag on him.  He did a great job.  I was so impressed with his thoughts and how he expressed them through his writing.  And for that he received a gift card to an outlet mall.  Fun for him.

D, I won't do drugs.
A, won't have an attitude.
R, I will respect myself.
E, I will educate...

 Graham doing the "Tebow" when his name was announced.  So proud of how hard he works to make good grades...but more proud of the character he shows every day.

 Mr. Waggener giving Cody the chest bump when he was announced.  Cody has been a good friend since kindergarten and I pray their friendship continues through the years.

Mrs. Armstrong and her baseball boys.  Her class isn't easy, but Graham is challenged everyday and will leave her class a stronger student.  And she loves him like her own and that makes all the difference.

old things made new

We loved being a part of our town's old bridge reopening.  We drive on that 80 year old bridge multiple times a day and were very grateful that they shut it down for reconstruction.  We like safety.

Walking along the old bridge, watching my kids draw chalk drawings on it and seeing how they made it new again reminded me of  life.  Every morning I am new.  What happened to me the day before or the choices I made no longer matter.  I am new.  God makes all things new and I am more grateful for that than I am for the much safer, new, old bridge.
